As the world was fighting with the virus in real time, our scientist were busy fighting in a very different battlefield where the arms weren’t lethal weapons and the risk of losing life was very high, fighting the unknown as what they were practically doing, they started with zero knowledge about the virus and ended up creating a new weapon which could possibly lead us to victory against the battle, they were fighting on two fronts, they had to know more about the virus and in less time and had to deliver a vaccine that could defeat the virus in record time, and they didn’t disappoint the people who have had high expectations and on them, the scientific community had proved that we need brains to save the world not hero, player, or some kind of high paid celebrity. This pandemic teaches us to set our priorities right! revisit what we are spending more on and what is necessary, and even if now we don’t get it right then we are to be blamed if something similar happens again in near future.
As already discussed in the previous post which was published on 17th of September how mRNA stratagem would be best to tackle the COVID-19 crisis and as always the analysis is yet true again, the Moderna’s vaccination to treat COVID-19 has passed the final trial with flying colours i.e. 90-95 % efficiency, this is the beginning of new era in medicine, this new stratagem would now be used in treating new and old viruses alike, making the treatment simple and more effective in immunizing the heard to certain kind of virus. What still remains a question is how effective will this be in other viruses, more no. of researches have to be conducted to answer these question, and there is a long way to go to find answers of these question, but for now we all have to be thankful to the people who have been working round the clock to make this medicine possible.
This article is to thank all the researchers and people involved in making this medication possible in record time under emergency response also people have been wondering when will this be available in India and to whole will it be available first, well here is my analysis on the basis of information available to public and on the basis of logic.
When will it be available?
Well, right when the Indian govt accepts the import of these vaccines in India they will be commercially available for the consumers but In a very limited and controlled manner as there can be panic stocking of this medicine, first the distribution will be done through govt controlled resellers and only to hospitals (possibly govt), the medicine will be administered to old age (people above 60) first then the seriously effected cases and then the children and at the last the youngsters, the priority will also include chronic and long term diseases affected patients viz hypertension, diabetes , thyroid etc the conditions which have a negative effect on the immunity.
When can we expect it to be sold freely in shops?
Not very soon, I am afraid that wont happen very fast as due to the high demand of the medicine all over the world, but India has its own ways to do thing, for a knowledgeable or the “Gyani” so to speak, any land is a la la land and on the basis of his knowledge he/she can tweak the system to do what he wishes to do no matter if the law says otherwise, none the less India is a hub of generic medicines, about 20 percent of the world’s generic medicine supply is provided by India and not to forget that India also has the largest pharmaceutical park which has capacity to produce nearly 5 million vaccines per month. Also, the Indian patent act of 1970 which made it easy for India to produce and distribute generic drugs, under which any company who has to sell its medicines in India can sell it for 1-5 years, after which they ought to share the formula with the state or produce a generic version, India became the first country to amend this law in 2002 and later minor amendments were made to fill the lacunae which the companies used to make more profit with the same medicine and tweaking the system to make more money out of it without sharing the formulae for so long.
Coming back to the question due to the judiciary arrangements mentioned above India will be able to get its dose in nearly 3-6 months, and within this span there are high chances that the medicine will only be available in Govt authorised stores and other outlets.
What will be the cost?
Since India is one of the largest generic medicine producers and this medicine can be considered and listed as one of the major essential supplies (like insulin, metformin and Cosart) hence, shortening the time and making it prudent to share the formulae and synthesis and sell the medicine in generic form as soon as possible. So, there are high chances that within 3-6 months of the arrival of medicine in Indian market the medicine may be available to the mass in generic form.
Meanwhile all the other medicines and home remedies which people are following to increase their immunity and save themselves from the deadly COVID-19 virus can be continued, now the day is not far when all patients shall have proper medication to the virus.
Be safe and have a healthy life reader _/\_
