Is Jio India’s Tech Revolution or a Rising Private Monopoly?

While we all are aware that this lockdown has been really good for one company, i., JIO. Till now, Jio has raised investments of around 15 lakh crores, combining all the investments and investors from last month till date. Here is the list

Having a close look at the investors it is not hard to understand that there are companies which are already leading in 5G technologies which have invested in the company, basically JIO has become an Uber Pool of development which will definitely be leading to huge profit, looking at huge user base the company has and the market size of India we are well sure that this combination is a sure shot hit formulae to profit and success, then how could companies like google be left behind in this race considering that google has always been interested in Indian market right from the conception of Android and making interesting technologies and making them accessible to Indian government, yes it seems so natural, after all Sundar Pichai is an Indian and obviously he would have a natural inclination towards India, but let me remind you Google is an LLC (Limited Liability Company) and it has nothing to do with an inclination of one particular person so, Mr. Pichai could have an inclination but the company doesn’t work that way, more over there is a parent company to google (Alphabet) which takes all the key decisions of investments, so being pragmatic and equating the losses and gains, it was natural to invest in Jio not because it is an Indian company but rather because it is a winning ship and riding it will lead to sure profit. Let us now have a look at the pros and cons of these investments.

Pro’s

While we all are aware of the obvious pros that we all are going to enjoy with these lucrative investments, like job creation, jump in the economy, technological advancements, producing cheap and high-quality products in India and selling them abroad which would, in turn, strengthen the Indian rupee value in the world market, which directly translates to more power in the world which is still a dream and has a long way to go

With Mr Prime Minister making a call for “Aatma nirbhar Bharat” it seems like many Indian companies have got the right boost for it, Apps like eleyment, tic-tok, dingdong, Roposo, file share, mx player, etc have got huge attention of people and they have also started to use them with more reliance and the call of Mr Prime Minister has worked as a catalyst to this process, already we all were getting slowly attracted to Indian products with charismatic yoga guru Baba Ramdev.

However, we fail to get the other side of the coin; we are all enjoying the short-term perks, and we forget the long-term traps these companies are setting in Indian markets. Let us now explore those options the company is setting with time.

Slow capture of the market and degrading innovation

Slowly and surreptitiously, the company is capturing the market with its lucrative price, and then slowly, when all the competitors are lost in oblivion then it shall raise its price to make maximum profit. Well, this is all known to us from time immemorial. What’s new in this? The new thing is that these companies may feel the brunt of it already when Jio started capturing the market with a huge margin and now it has become a huge competitor in telecom, with investors like QUALCOMM it is definite that the 5G technology will get much cheaper for Jio than its competitors and thus this company will soon even capture the market of mobile phone manufacturing, with Atmanirbhar Bharat mission the company is bound to sell more phones than it would previously (we know this because they already tried with Jio smartphones), also, tie-up with the tech giant Google will make sure that there is no other new operating system that pops up in India. I remember an anecdote that when bill gates were asked the questions of why does Microsoft hire more Indians than Americans, gates said if I don’t hire them the next Microsoft will be in India, the giant saw this potential in Indian grads, lest we fail to recognise this potent until Mr Prime Minister saw this as an opportunity and took this to whole new level by announcing a new scheme.

Creating a monopoly is an obvious thing that we all ignore, but I guess that is too obvious.

Aatma nirbhar se poori tarha nirbhar

While Jio is trying its hands on every possible business that can be a potentially viable and profitable product in the Indian markets, it has started surreptitiously capturing all the products and in the garb of Aatma Nirbhar Bharat, it is bound to get all the free publicity and boost to all of its products in the name of Indian product and Aatma nirbhar bharat, a brilliant strategy in these times, like old strategies of first capturing the market and getting rid of the old competitors, and making all the people completely nirbhar on Jio it will start its expansion and then …. Boom! You have already abandoned all the alternatives, and you will have to take the services of Jio, because clearly, it has created a monopoly and a huge empire. Will this be a good thing? Especially India? We are already seeing it now in actions, airtel has lost crores of business, idea is slowly going out of business, BSNL is in pathetic state, jio fiber net has started attacking the other generic internet broadband services, like Act, Tikona, Bharat net etc, many small telecos have run out of business that they have sold their stakes to the giants.

This has already happened with the telecoms, and now it will happen with other sectors as well, so to make sure that the other telecoms don’t have to undergo what companies like Aircel and Airtel had to go through, they have started to buy themselves a seat in this big giant right now.
